VSI initiates, supports, and/or coordinates conferences focused on the relationship between a specific community and its local, supporting ecosystem. To merit VSI support, a conference should bring together individuals from different disciplines, and perhaps different sectors of society, to discuss and design measures that will render the relationship between a society and its supporting ecosystem more sustainable and enriching—not only in an economic sense, but also, potentially, in cultural, aesthetic, or spiritual senses, as well.
