E. Hirsh Aaron E. Hirsh is currently Director of The Vermilion Sea Institute. Over the past five years, Dr. Hirsh has turned his attention from scientific research to writing about biology and the environment for a broader audience. His essays have appeared in literary journals and in The Best American Nature and Science Writing. His first book, Telling Our Way to the Sea, will be published next year by Farrar, Straus and Giroux. Dr. Hirsh's scientific research is in three main areas: the population genetics of infectious disease; the evolution of genomes; and theoretical models of evolution. Other areas of interest and teaching include theoretical ecology, epidemiology, and fisheries models. Dr. Hirsh was a founder of the biotechnology company InterCell, and currently serves on the board of Roberts & Co. Scientific Publishers. He is a research associate with the Department of Ecology and Evolutionary Biology at The University of Colorado, Boulder. |
